Camille-Marie Stamaty short biography

A French pianist, composer and teacher, Camille-Marie Stamaty was a student of Fessy and Kalkbrenner. Stamaty became an acclaimed piano virtuoso. Stamaty later took composition lessons from Mendelssohn in Leipzig. Stamaty was a remarkable piano teacher; his students included Louis Moreau Gottschalk and Camille Saint-Saëns. Stamaty was admired by Robert Schumann, especially for his piano concerto and variations. In 1862, Stamaty became a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur.
