Ignaz Moscheles short biography
Born in Prague, Ignaz Moscheles initially studied piano at the Prague Conservatory. In 1808, Moscheles moved to Vienna where he became a close friend of Beethoven. Moscheles studied composition with Salieri. In 1814, Moscheles’s piano arrangement of Beethoven’s Fidelio made him the Vienna's most popular virtuoso pianists. For more than 20 years, Moscheles was a piano professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he is also known to play piano duets with Chopin and Mendelssohn. In 1846, Moscheles was appointed principal piano professor at the Leipzig Conservatory.
