The most distinguished Neapolitan Baroque musician, Francesco Durante was appointed Primo Maestro of the conservatory Poveri di Gesù. In 1742 Durante assumed the same position at the oldest and most important Neapolitan conservatory 'S. Maria di Loreto' after Porpora left this job. Durante was acclaimed as the most prominent among all Neapolitan teachers.
