Dubois short biography
An important French composer, organist and teacher, Theodore Dubois was a student at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1861, Dubois was awarded the coveted Prix de Rome. In 1896, Dubois assumed the directorship of the Conservatoire. Resisting modern ideas in music and art, Dubois remained a composer of the 'academic style.' Dubois composed mainly a large-scale works including 4 operas, a ballet, oratorios, a Requiem Mass and a number of works for orchestra. Dubois’s Notes et Étues d'Harmonie is an important research work of Romantic style harmony and form.
