Conus short biography
One of the most important Russian composers, violinists and educators, George Conus was a student of the Imperial Conservatory in Moscow. Among his teachers were such giants as Anton Arensky, Paul Pabst, Serge Taneev, Peter Tchaikovsky. In 1891 Conus became professor of the Moscow Conservatory. Conus’s compositions became a standard repertoire of symphony concerts at the Imperial Society in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Emperor of Russia awarded Conus an annual pension for his composition Scenes Enfantines for orchestra and choir.
