A member of the minor nobility, Jacques Champion  Chambonnieres is the founder of the distinguished French keyboard music school.  Chambonnieres was admired by François Couperin and Rameau who considered him their inspirational teacher. Chambonnieres joined the royal service and enjoyed a successful career there, while building a significant fame as a performer and composer.
