Johan Hermann Berens short biography
A noted German-Swedish pianist and composer, Hermann Berens was the son of a German flutist, Carl Berens, Hermann’s first teacher. Later, Berens studied with Karl Gottlieb, a student of Weber, in Leipzig. In 1860 Berens was appointed music director of Mindra Teatern and then accepted the similar position at theatre Dramaten. Berens was professor of composition and instrumentation at the Stockholm Conservatory. Berens is known to have taught a number of amateur nobility including Queen Lovisa of Sweden.
