Claude Balbastre held an important position as organist to Louis XVIII. Balbastre taught the harpsichord to Marie-Antoinette and the Duke of Chartres. Balbastre’s performances were extremely popular, and his reputation was international. Balbastre’s performances attracted such large crowds that the archbishop forbade him to play.
